In past years, ‘cross season has been more of an after thought than anything else, but that is where I have always found my best results. My arguments in the past have been a decreased depth of talent, and simply that my form is better after a strong road season. I think the talent issue is getting harder to argue with the growing popularity of cyclocross and the fact that I’m now racing at the highest level of local racing. Perhaps I’m on to something and I am excited to see if I can find some good results in big races this year.
This week I’m trying to get in some solid training. This weekend is the first double race weekend of the season for me, so I will be good and tired afterward. I’ll take an easier week following in preparation for the USGP New Belgium Cup in Ft Collins. The is the premier national cyclocross series, and I’ll be racing UCI Elite. I will be looking for a strong result to justify some travel later in the year and am looking forward to racing the big show on my home turf.
This weekend’s race is the Colorado Cross Cup opener. The Cross Cup is the ‘best all-around rider’ series for cyclocross. Last year I finished 8th, but I should be able to place better this year. I am focusing my efforts on the local UCI races at this point, so I’ll be focusing on fitness and mini vacation to the mountains with my family for this race.
Sorry for the short update, but look forward to a couple posts I’ve been working on later in the week. Thanks again for reading and the kind words on facebook/twitter for my win.
