I am feeling a bit tired still after my first double race weekend of the Cyclocross season. And it was a doozy! I raced both days after working, and was held over an extra hour each night on top of my 12 hour shift. I slept 8 hours the entire weekend. Well, I was in bed, but with a three week old baby at home, I was up every few hours to help take care of him.
The good news is I got to take the new bike out for what it was made for: Racing! I felt 100% comfortable on it and finished pretty well in a strong field on Saturday. On Sunday I had my best result ever, finishing in 5th place out of 28 starters! I still can’t hang with the really fast guys, and don’t expect to this season, but I can feel that I am close.
I updated the blog with a few links to local bloggers on the right side bar. Look for some dirt climb additions, some tubeless tire thoughts, and a thorough first impression my new bike coming soon.
This weekend I am racing both days again, first will be a grassy course in south Denver, and then a brand new venue at Estes Park. They’ll both be first time events for me, which keeps things interesting. Saturday will likely have a smaller field and I will be on the hunt for a couple more upgrade points. Sunday is another Colorado Cross Cup race and I’ll be looking to defend my current 5th place state ranking. As of right now, it looks like the weather will remain unseasonably nice, but there may be a front moving through near the end of the weekend, so with Sunday’s race at 8000′ in the mountains, things could get interesting in a hurry!
