Wednesday Weekly Update

This week I am taking it a bit easier.  I put in a good ride day before yesterday (70 miles, 3.5 hours, a few hard efforts, =206), but will only ride a little bit for the rest of this week. Which works out really well, since it will be snowing outside.

I have had a solid few weeks of training leading up to this one and I have a hard weekend coming up. Saturday will be very busy with the Sunshine Hill Climb at 8am, yoga at 11am, and a Rockies game with my sister in the evening. The race is 9 miles of 7.6% average grade for 9 miles, much steeper and longer than the Lookout race two weeks ago. Since I am a larger rider, I don’t expect to do too well. I don’t believe the hill climb has any upgrade points, but I can ride to the start from my house and it will be a good workout.

Sunday is the Deer Trail Road Race, a typically windy, 58 mile road race with relentless rolling hills. The road race will have 10 upgrade points for the winner. I expect to do pretty well at this one, as the course suits me. I have been training with a bit more volume this season and am planning to do better at long road races this season (Deer Trail will be my first).

Monday will be off or a recovery ride in preparation for my 40k Time Trial on Tuesday. This is part of a cycling study I am a participant in and in addition to the test, I will have a DXA body fat / bone density scan as well.

I will be sure to keep you all posted on the results of my up coming races and testing.
